IBS support group launches in Forest Hill
1st July 2019
The IBS Network is launching a new support group in Forest Hill, London.
The group will meet at Forest Hill Library every first Wednesday of the month. The next group meeting will be held on Wednesday 3rd July 2019 6.30pm to 7.30pm.
The Forest Hill IBS support group will be run by Victoria Harris, 28, who suffers with the condition. After struggling on her own for many years, Victoria is now living well with IBS and has set up the group to help others living with the condition.
She said: “When I was diagnosed with IBS I felt very low as there is no cure and I would have to live with my debilitating symptoms for the rest of my life. From that point I searched for ways to manage my symptoms, which is when I discovered The IBS Network, the national charity helping people with IBS to live better with the condition. Through The IBS Network I finally didn’t feel so isolated and alone. There’s a network of people supporting one another.”
Irritable bowel syndrome is a long-term illness which affects around 12 million people in the UK. Symptoms include abdominal pain, bloating, constipation and diarrhoea. IBS is different for each individual and can be triggered by food, stress and anxiety.
Alison Reid, chief executive of The IBS Network, said: “Millions of people in the UK suffer from IBS and many struggle to find the best way to manage their symptoms. Our support groups bring sufferers together to share their experience in an open and non-judgemental environment. At the group members can learn more about the condition and what they can do to try and reduce their symptoms.”
